Have an updated and more practical understanding of how physicians must function within California’s workers’ compensation system including how recent changes to the medical treatment utilization guidelines may change their treatment planning and how recent changes in statutes, regulations and court opinions may change how they report the condition of their patients at the beginning, during and at the end of the injured worker’s treatment plan.
  2. Have an improved understanding of how cultural and linguistic issues can affect the success of treatment and/or evaluations.
  3. Be aware of recent legislative, administrative and judicial decisions and how each may affect their occupational medicine practice.
  4. Improve their understanding of how to measure and report permanent impairments more accurately.
  5. Have a better understanding of how to use current best practices to increase their success when requesting authorization for treatment under California’s changing medical treatment utilization review system.
  6. Become more familiar with the latest approaches to returning injured employees back to work more effectively.
  7. Through group discussions of actual case studies, gain a better understanding of how the practice of medicine and current law are combined in written reports to assist in the resolution of medical disputes.
