A Message From Our New President, Annu Navani M.D.

message from our president Jan 24, 2022

Dear colleagues,

It is a privilege to address you as the CSIMS President. On behalf of the executive team at CSIMS, we’re excited to begin the 2022 journey with you and look forward to what’s to come! Through your support, and the strong leadership of our past president Dr. Jacob Rosenberg, we have established ourselves as the only California-based organization dedicated to the wellbeing of both physicians and injured workers in the complex world of workers’ compensation.

As you know, CSIMS was founded on the shoulders of nine California physicians who banded together in 1980 after the passing of Senate Bill 375. CSIMS’s mission then was to keep physicians abreast of changes in workers’ compensation—and the same mission remains today. At CSIMS, we want to be the eyes, ears, and voice for physicians treating injured workers, and ensure workers receive the highest quality of medical care amidst the constantly changing legislative processes.

CSIMS stands on three foundational pillars: Advocacy, Education, and Mentorship. Through these pillars, we have been able to create incredible value propositions, like negotiating the first medical-legal fee schedule (obtaining a 26% increase in the treatment fee schedule), successfully petitioning the Insurance Commissioner to adopt regulations which requiredinsurance companies to separate medical management costs (like bill review, utilization review, MPN management fees) from payments for direct patient care, and have even opened dialogue directly with the DWC regarding best practices around care management and implementing emergency regulations including virtual health care for treaters and QMEs.

In addition, CSIMS continues to provide comprehensive educational programs to all workers’ compensation stakeholders, along with offering CME, CE, QME, and CLE credits to attendees. Please support us by joining CSIMS https://www.csims.org/store.

CSIMS has a jam-packed year ahead in 2022. Some of our priorities include advocacy-related topics, and others span from tackling important issues such as MPN, COLA, to establishing collaborative efforts with other professional societies. We’re on track to increase our own membership and multi-stakeholder presence and want to make helping physicians build up their medical legal and treatment practices a priority through the help of CSIMS’ mentorship and education programs.

CSIMS is built by physicians, for physicians. I look forward to working closely with each one of you. Please feel free to reach out to me directly anytime at [email protected].
